What Would the Best Version of Me Do (Besides Hide in the Staff Bathroom)?

This is one of those deceptively simple questions that packs a surprising punch:

“What would the best version of me do right now?”

Ask it when you’re doubting yourself. When you're at a career crossroads.

When someone’s breathing too loudly in the meeting and you’re dangerously close to saying something you’ll regret.

Because this isn’t just a fluffy motivational quote that belongs on a fridge magnet (although, great if you’ve got one).

It’s a genuine decision-making tool.

It helps you get up, not out of pressure to be perfect — but out of purpose.

It nudges you to act based on who you're becoming, not just who you've been.

👏 What might she do?

S
he might say yes to a new opportunity — even though her stomach’s doing backflips with nerves.

She might finally speak up in a meeting, instead of nodding while someone else pitches her idea with their name on it.

She might take a breath instead of sending that spicy email reply.

Or she might quietly invest in herself — read that book, watch that training, take a lunch break without guilt (yes, Karen, we see you).

Whatever the moment, showing up as your “next-level self” is where the real power kicks in.

And I'm sure that your devil's advocate is saying:

“But I don’t always know what the ‘best version of me’ even looks like.”

Totally valid. Some days, she’s a TEDx speaker.

Other days, she’s crying in the car outside Countdown with two broken nails and a soggy pie.

The point isn’t to be perfect — it’s to choose progress.

“But what if I get it wrong? What if she says yes and I fall flat on my face?”

Then you learn. Dust off. Try again — this time with an even better version of you steering the ship.

“But what if I’m exhausted and don’t feel like showing up as my best anything?”

Then the best version of you might say: “Take a nap. Drink some tea. Put on your stretchy pants. We try again tomorrow.”

Whatever the moment, choosing to act as the best version of you gives you power. Real power.

The kind that shifts your confidence.

Moves your career forward.

And turns potential into progress.

So if you want to:

Step up and be seen—instead of quietly hoping someone notices how hard you work…

Speak with clarity— instead of second-guessing your voice in the room…

Shake off imposter syndrome and claim your space in the room…

Or finally take your development seriously—not for your boss, your mates, or your mum… but for you…

Then start here.

Ask the question.

Back yourself.

And take that next step — even if it’s tiny — in the direction of the woman you’re becoming.

Because guess what?

That next-level version of you?

She’s already in there.

She’s just waiting for you to pick up the phone, and say "let's do this".
